Our First Anniversary!

We're already one year old!

Jan and David Morgan opened BoardTown Bikes last fall. Both of us coming from a medical background, and new to retail, we needed a whole bunch of help. Before we could open our doors we had to stock the shop and build some bikes... lots and lots of bikes. With the help of good buddies Jeremy Polk and Paula Pellegrin, Jan was able to begin ordering all the tools and parts, and David quickly turned into a master bike builder. Everyone pitched in, and after spending an entire weekend in a warehouse together, we had built nearly one hundred shiny new bicycles.

We opened for business on September 5, 2008 with a bit of nervousness. Jan could operate the computer but she still wasn't sure what a derailleur was. Fortunately, Mike did. So with an knowledgeable and enthusiastic mechanic in the back, we were underway! The community welcomed us and we soon realized just how much fun we were going to have with our new little business! David still had to "keep his day job", but he could be found hanging around the shop whenever he had a chance.

We now have a full staff of friendly and helpful folks on board... Mike Cassibry, Parisa Toghiani, Kevin Conerly, Tanner Mixon, and David Ansel. They are here to help you select a new bike, or provide service to your existing one. Any one of them can also help you pick out a helmet, apparel or accessories. Of course, if you only have questions, we're happy to try to answer all of them.

Come by and help us celebrate our first 12 months in business.

Thanks to all of you who helped make our first year a success!

MAY IS NATIONAL BIKE MONTH.

Since 1956, May has been recognized as National Bike Month. This year May 11-15 is Bike to Work Week, and Friday, May 15th is Bike to Work Day.

WHY BIKE TO WORK?

IT’S FUN.

Biking to work builds morale, encourages camaraderie, and is a great way to get active in your community.

IT’S HEALTHY.

Active employees are more alert, take fewer sick days, and are more productive.

IT’S GREEN.

Biking reduces your carbon footprint, reduces traffic congestion, and can save you money.

Following are some tips that will help you enjoy biking to work more:

• Have your bike checked over by your local bike shop
• Always wear a helmet to protect your head in the event of a crash
• Ride in the right-most lane that goes in the direction that you are traveling
• Obey all stop signs, traffic lights and lane markings
• Look before you change lanes or signal a turn; indicate your intention, then act
• Be visible and predictable at all times; wear bright clothing and signal turns

With spring in the air, BoardTown Bikes and the League of American Bicyclists, the national organization of bicyclists, urge everyone to bike to work or school, or try cycling for fun, fitness or transportation.
